The Force

The Air Force is made up of human and material resources, grouped and organized, with the principal task of preparing for military operations and, if necessary, carrying out the assigned missions. Essential elements of the Air Force Air Commands include Air Combat Units, Combat Support and Auxiliary Forces, and Divisions of Command and Control.

It consists of the following divisions:

  • Air Combat Command

The Air Combat Command has the task of preparing Air Combat Units, Combat Support and Command and Control Systems to quickly and efficiently deploy operations in order to conduct military air operations. It constitutes the basis of the contribution of the air component in Joint Action Operations of the Armed Forces participating in or leading multinational operations. For this purpose, it has a Command and Control System capable of deployment.

  • General Air Command

The General Air Command is responsible for instruction, training and preparation for evaluation of the Air Units of Auxiliary Forces, except when carrying out combat missions, combat support, training and test flights, and military operations, or others, they may have been commissioned.

  • Canary Islands Air Command

The Canary Islands Air Command has the task of preparing the units located in the Canary Islands for the operations they may be assigned and to protect the interests of national airways.

Headquarters

The Headquarters of the Air Force is made up of a set of organs which incorporate the human and material resources necessary to assist the Chief of Staff in the exercise of his command over the Air Force.

It is made up of the following organs which report directly to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force:

  • Head of Technical Services and Information Systems and Telecommunications

The Head of Technical Services, Information Systems and Telecommunications is responsible for the direction, coordination and management of maps, sociology, statistics, operational military research and publications. It is also responsible for planning, control and, when necessary, everything related with information and telecommunications.

  • Air Force Staff

The Air Force Staff is the Auxiliary Command of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, responsible for providing the necessary evidence on which to base his decisions, translate these in orders and ensure their fulfilment.

  • Grouped Headquarters

The Grouped Headquarters of the Air Force is in charge of providing services of security and support necessary for operations, and to attend the maintenance of the installations of the Headquarters, the organs therein and of the others it may be assigned.

  • Historical and Cultural Service

Responsible for cataloguing, protecting, conserving, researching and disseminating historical, cultural, documentary and bibliographic patrimony, the Historical and Cultural Service of the Air Force also carries out historical aero and astronautical research, disclosure and dissemination of aero and astronautical knowledge and the history of Spanish aeronautics.

  • Office of the Chief of Staff

The Office of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force provides immediate support to the Chief of Staff and is responsible for the analysis, advice on and management of matters that concern the Chief of Staff as a military authority and on behalf of the Air Force. This office also provides support to those that are not specifically attributed to other organs of the Headquarters.

  • Legal Department

The Legal Department of the Air Force is the consultative and legal advisory organ of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and those organs that Chief of Staff determines.

  • Central Comptroller

With an organic and functional dependence of the General Comptroller (Executive Intervention) of the Ministry of Defence, the Central Comptroller exercises internal control of the corresponding organs, Military Notary and economic and tax advice according to current legislation.

Force Support

Units, centres and organs responsible for the direction, management, administration and control of financial, human and material resources allocated to the Air Force. It is comprised of:

  • Personnel Command

The Personnel Command is the organ of Force Support, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, responsible for the direction, management, administration and control human resources. It develops planning activities at its own level, managing and securing human resources, staff assistance, training and health operations logistics.

  • Direction of Economic Affairs

The Direction of Economic Affairs is responsible for the management, administration and control of financial resources, procurement and accounting. It is also responsible for the technical preparation of the draft budget and the centralization of all information, both on forecasting and implementation of programs and the budget.

  • Logistic Support Command

The Logistic Support Command is responsible for the management, inspection and coordination of procurement, supply, maintenance, transport and material, infrastructure and system services.
